For many\u00a0youth\u00a0entrepreneurs, developing a product is only the first step. Turning that product into\u00a0a viable\u00a0business requires access to finance, the right technical support, a clear understanding of the\u00a0market\u00a0and the confidence to keep going when sales do not come\u00a0immediately.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>WeWork \u2013 Green and Decent Jobs for Youth<\/span><\/b>\u00a0project is designed to help bridge that gap by supporting youth-led businesses\u00a0operating\u00a0in the\u00a0<\/span>green and circular economy (GCE)\u00a0<\/span>through incubation,\u00a0financing\u00a0and technical support.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When Arinaitwe Vivian joined the WeWork\u00a0project, Che Innovations Uganda Ltd had a product but no customers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The business was still at the prototype stage. Its CHE Nest product had been developed, but the business had not yet generated any sales.\u00a0At the time, Vivian’s strategy was largely focused on selling to hospitals, limiting the business to a relatively narrow customer base.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, Che Innovations is on a different trajectory.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The business has moved from having a prototype to generating consistent monthly revenue, reached 30 families with its products, created two employment opportunities, and strengthened both its production capacity and financial management.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Turning an idea into a market-ready product\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Through the grant received, the business invested in essential raw materials, including Mackintosh rolls, nest materials, foam, baby nets and bedsheets, as well as labour for sewing and mattress production. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This investment enabled the business to stock enough raw materials to produce\u00a0<\/span>more than 100 CHE Nest accessories<\/span><\/b>, giving Vivian greater capacity to fulfil orders and respond to market opportunities.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The increased access to materials also helped reduce production costs and improve the business’s profitability.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But production was only one part of the challenge.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finding the customers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of the most important changes for Che Innovations came through mentorship and coaching.<\/p>\n

Before joining the project, the business was primarily focused on hospitals. Through the project, Vivian was encouraged to think differently about her market and explore direct sales to families and parents.<\/p>\n

This shift opened a much larger customer market.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of waiting for institutional buyers, Vivian and her team introduced structured weekly sales plans and began consistently engaging potential customers.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The approach started to pay off.<\/p>\n

Che Innovations has now sold its products to 30 families<\/strong>, marking an important shift from having a product with no sales to building a growing customer base.<\/p>\n

The change was not simply about finding more customers. It was also about learning how to sell sustainably.<\/p>\n

Learning the numbers behind the business<\/h2>\n

Mentorship placed a strong focus on the fundamentals that help businesses\u00a0grow:\u00a0pricing, unit economics, profit margins, revenue\u00a0generation\u00a0and sales planning.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before the project, Vivian was willing to sell her products at almost any price. Through coaching, she developed a stronger understanding of how the different costs involved in producing her products affected profitability.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This helped her make more informed pricing decisions and better understand what it would take for the business to generate sustainable revenue.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The introduction of structured weekly sales plans also helped turn customer acquisition into a more deliberate process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The result has been a transition from a prototype<\/span>\u00a0to consistent monthly sales,\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0how business knowledge, when combined with access to resources and persistent customer outreach, can translate into tangible growth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Growing the team alongside the business<\/h2>\n

As the business has grown, so has its capacity to create opportunities for others.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Che Innovations has created two<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0jobs<\/strong>, in a period of 5 months, showing how the growth of a small enterprise can extend beyond the entrepreneur to create opportunities within the wider community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The increased production capacity has also positioned the business to serve more customers as demand grows.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Strengthening the business behind the product<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Growth is not only about making more sales. For a business to become sustainable, it also needs systems that allow the entrepreneur to understand and manage its finances.<\/p>\n

As part of its progress, Che Innovations has adopted QuickBooks<\/strong> to strengthen financial management and record-keeping.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe realized that growing the business also means putting proper systems in place to understand our finances and manage the business better.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is an important step in moving the business from an early-stage venture towards a more structured and commercially viable enterprise.<\/p>\n

Vivian’s journey with WeWork reflects a transformation that goes beyond numbers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
