Job Summary
The Venture Associate will play a pivotal role in supporting the growth and success of early-stage startups within StartHub Africa’s portfolio. This role involves providing comprehensive venture support, mentorship, entrepreneurship training, and curriculum development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong entrepreneurial mindset, financial acumen, and a passion for fostering the growth of innovative ventures.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Venture Support and Mentorship
- Conduct thorough analysis and due diligence on startups applying for support under StartHub Africa’s programs, focusing on their potential for growth and scalability.
- Provide tailored coaching and mentorship to startups, particularly in areas of business strategy, financial planning, and market expansion.
- Assist startups in developing clear strategic goals with actionable short-term milestones and a long-term vision.
- Organize and lead strategic mentorship bootcamps, workshops, and one-on-one sessions with venture founders.
- Assess the financial viability and investment readiness of startups within the portfolio.
- Perform comprehensive financial modeling and risk assessments to determine potential returns for both equity and debt investments.
- Support startups in preparing investor pitches and facilitate connections with relevant investment partners, including venture capitalists, angel investors, and other funding sources.
- Oversee the execution of investment deals, ensuring all legal, financial, and strategic requirements are met.
Entrepreneurship Training and Curriculum Development:
- Design and deliver high-impact entrepreneurship training sessions, workshops, and bootcamps for founders and startups at various stages of growth.
- Develop tailored curricula that address the unique challenges and needs of entrepreneurs at the ideation, early-stage, and growth levels.
- Lead group training sessions, providing actionable knowledge on key topics such as business model development, financial management, scaling operations, and market access.
- Ensure that training programs are interactive, practical, and aligned with the overall goals of startup development and empowerment.
- Continuously update and enhance training materials to reflect market trends, business innovation, and ecosystem needs.
Other Responsibilities
- Monitor the progress of startups in the program, tracking performance metrics and adjusting mentorship or intervention strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless delivery of program activities.
- Engage with external stakeholders to promote StartHub Africa’s vision and initiatives, attending industry events and networking functions.
- Develop strategic partnerships with industry experts, ecosystem players, and relevant stakeholders to enhance venture support and resource availability.
- Contribute to the continuous development of StartHub Africa’s Catalyzer program by refining curriculum, developing new content, and improving mentorship structures.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in venture support, investment analysis, financial modeling, or a related role.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating entrepreneurship training, workshops, and curricula for startups at various stages.
- Experience working with startups, SMEs, or entrepreneurial support programs, preferably in Africa.
- Strong understanding of financial structures, investment processes, and startup ecosystems.
- Proven ability to design and implement strategic business interventions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for mentoring and coaching entrepreneurs.

- Curriculum Development: Ability to craft dynamic, practical training programs that respond to the specific needs of early-stage and growth-stage founders.
- Mentorship and Coaching: Experience coaching entrepreneurs and teams on business growth, financial planning, and market access.
Working Conditions
- Full-time role based in Tanzania.
- May require occasional travel to meet with suppliers or handle administrative tasks at offsite locations.
