IGNITE Challenge Tanzania Entrepreneurs Showcase Solutions for Stronger Food Systems
Building stronger food systems requires more than innovative ideas; it requires the right support, knowledge, and connections to help solutions reach the communities that need them most.
IGNITE Challenge Tanzania 1.0 is implemented by StartHub Africa in Tanzania in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and Funded by Ministry of Foreign affairs of Denmark.
The programme focuses on identifying, accelerating, and supporting high-potential Tanzanian businesses developing nutrition and water-efficiency solutions that strengthen sustainable food systems and serve humanitarian and institutional contexts, including refugees, host communities, and schools.
As part of the programme journey, selected entrepreneurs participated in an intensive four-day bootcamp designed to strengthen their businesses and prepare them for growth. Through practical learning sessions, mentorship, and engagement with technical experts, founders gained insights to refine their business models, strengthen their value propositions, improve financial readiness, and develop strategies for market expansion.
The bootcamp provided entrepreneurs with a platform to address real business challenges while preparing to showcase their innovations during Demo Day, an opportunity to connect with buyers, partners, and ecosystem stakeholders interested in supporting impactful solutions.

Showcasing Solutions for Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems
The IGNITE Challenge Tanzania cohort features businesses developing solutions that respond to critical challenges within Tanzania’s food systems, from improving access to nutritious foods for young children to addressing water challenges affecting agricultural production.
Goldenpot Limited is working to improve access to nutritious complementary foods through fortified food products, including fortified maize flour, Uji Fastaa (an instant corn-soy complementary porridge), and breakfast cereals. With a full grain-processing facility and established distribution channels serving households, schools, and institutions across multiple regions, Goldenpot is positioned to support the wider availability of affordable fortified foods.
Rumishael & Daughters Food Co Ltd is also addressing nutrition challenges through the production of instant fortified porridge and fortified breakfast cereals. Operating from Kibaha, Pwani, the company has built a retail network of more than 250 outlets across Dar es Salaam, Coast, and Mbeya, helping bring nutritious food options closer to consumers.
Beyond nutrition, other businesses in the cohort are developing innovative solutions to improve water access and efficiency for food production.
Bytrade Tanzania Limited is introducing POLISOB, a super-absorbent soil polymer that helps crops retain water and nutrients, reducing irrigation frequency by approximately 60%. Through its distribution network of agro-dealers, retail outlets, and farmers across Tanzania, the company is supporting more efficient agricultural practices.
Green Composting is creating new possibilities for sustainable water management through a decentralized wastewater treatment system that converts wastewater into affordable irrigation water while producing compost as a by-product. The solution supports farms, schools, and institutions in Zanzibar by providing an alternative water source, especially during dry seasons.
Connecting Innovation with Opportunity
At Demo Day, entrepreneurs had the opportunity to present their solutions, demonstrate their products and systems, and engage directly with stakeholders through presentations, showcases, and one-on-one discussions.
The event was not only a celebration of progress but also a platform for building meaningful connections that can support the next phase of growth for these businesses.
