StartHub Africa implemented the “Digital Innovations for Business Resilience in the East African Community” on behalf of the Inter-University Council for East Africa and the GIZ (www.dskills.iucea.org).
Digital Innovations for Business Resilience in the East African Community, an initiative under the project Digital Skills for an Innovative East African Industry (dSkills@EA) aims to support young innovators at Universities in the EAC to develop digital innovations for business resilience.
We received over 1000 applications across East-Africa, which refined their ideas in an online Ideathon. Finally top 10 teams per country were selected, went through a one-week bootcamp program and pitched their solutions at the National Pitch-Events. During the national events, 2 teams were selected and moved ahead to the East Africa Grand Finale where they compete and stood a chance to win a share of a $10,000 grant.
378 student innovations refined their ideas in an online Ideathon, 120 student innovators received in- depth training on customer discovery, business modelling, testing, financial feasibility and pitching, 60 digital ideas across different sectors were presented, 12 ideas received award money of min. USD 1000 on National Level»5 ideas were selected on the East Africa Level
